An Eye-Witness Account of a Traffic Accident

u18102184422988145662fm0gp0.jpg     It was at about 9:00 on Sunday morning, when I went out of the campus to go to a supermarket for a shopping. I was walking leisurely on the sidewalk of Xueyuang Road when I heard a loud crash just at the cross about 10 meters away. Two cars crashed together. It was a serious traffic accident.

Lots of people rushed to the spot to see what had happened, me included. I found two cars were badly damaged with a door knocked off. One driver was blooding on his forehead and another was shut in the taxi. Some people were trying to help the driver get out of the damaged car; others were calling 110 and 120 for help.At that time a lot of cars were jammed on the road.

How telephone effect our communication in the hundred years

images.jpg        What has the telephone done to us, or for us, in the hundred years of its existence? A few effects suggest themselves at once. It has saved lives by getting rapid word of illness, injury, or fire from remote places. By joining with the elevator to make possible the multi-story residence or office building, it has made possible — for better or worse — the modern city. By bringing about a great leap in the speed and ease with which information moves from place to place, it has greatly accelerated the rate of scientific and technological changes and growth in industry. Beyond doubt it has seriously weakened if not killed the ancient art of letter writing.

AlternaTIFF ActiveX auto-installation for Internet Explorer

Before you install: AlternaTIFF will configure itself to be Internet Explorer’s default TIFF file viewer, but it cannot prevent other applications from changing that setting in the future. If QuickTime, or some other ActiveX TIFF viewer, is installed on your computer, your best bet is to turn off TIFF support in that application before installing AlternaTIFF. Here are instructions about QuickTime. Most other imaging applications do not include an ActiveX control for Internet Explorer, and therefore do not need to be reconfigured.

To install, click this link: Auto-install AlternaTIFF ActiveX control.
You may wish to scroll down and read the rest of this page first.

It should take about one minute to download AlternaTIFF over a modem connection.

If you have applied Windows XP Service Pack 2, an additional step may be necessary in order to start the download. Just follow the instructions given by Internet Explorer.

After AlternaTIFF is downloaded, you should see a security warning similar to one of the images shown below.

You must click the Install or Yes button to install AlternaTIFF in this way.

Get a Thorough Understanding of Oneself

In all one’s lifetime it is oneself that one spends the most time being with or dealing with. But it is precisely oneself that one has the least understanding of. When you are going upwards in life you tend to overestimate yourself. When you are going downhill you tend to underestimate yourself. It’s likely that you think it wise for yourself to know your place and stay aloof from worldly wearing a mask of cowardice, behind which the flow of sap in your life will be retarded.

To say that the child learns by imitation and that the way to teach is to set a good example oversimplifies

To say that the child learns by imitation and that the way to teach is to set a good example oversimplifies. No child imitates every action he sees. Sometimes, the example the parent wants him to follow is ignored while he takes over contrary patterns from some other example. Therefore we must turn to a more subtle theory than “Monkey see, monkey do.” Look at it from the child’s point of view. Here he is in a new situation, lacking a ready response. He is seeking a response which will gain certain ends. If he lacks a ready response for the situation, and cannot reason out what to do, he observes a model who seems able to get the right result. The child looks for an authority or expert who can show what to do.

Grandpa’s Valentine

I received a call from the nursing home. Grandpa was failing rapidly. I should come. There was nothing to do but hold his hand. “I love you, Grandpa. Thank you for always being there for me.”     Memories…memories…six days a week, Grandpa in that old blue shirt caring for those cattle…on hot summer days plowing the soil, planting the corn and beans and harvesting them in the fall…always working from dawn to dusk. Survival demanded work, work, work.

Getting to Know the World Outside the Campus

It is necessary for college students to know the world outside the campus. This is because in this “Information Age” the society is developing so fast that we should keep pace with the progress of the outside world. Therefore, without knowledge of the outside world, it will be difficult for us to ensure an ideal job after graduation; it will be more difficult for us to succeed in the fierce competition.

How to know the outside world? First of all, we should be well-informed about what is happening around us with the help of mass media:radios, televisions, newspapers, the Internet, and so on. Moreover,we should do some practical social services so as to cultivate our social skills, widen our horizon and enrich our social experience.

As for me, I plan to know the outside world in two ways. I am going to do a part-time job in this summer vocation. In addition, I hold the idea that getting knowledge from books is a better method to know the outside world.
