Soccer scores exhibit at National Geographic

images1.jpgTo celebrate the popularity of football, or soccer as it is called in the United States, and to coincide with the World Cup, the National Geographic Museum in Washington D.C. organized an exhibit of pictures of people of all ages and cultures, playing soccer. This report is narrated by Carolyn Weaver.

There are images we have all seen around the world. What makes the particular 52 pictures different is that they were taken by some of the best photographers in the world, says Susan Norton, director of the National Geographic Museum.

“We know that on the news every night and on the sports channels you will be seeing professional soccer. But because soccer is everywhere, we wanted to show people playing soccer everywhere, normal people like you and me, even animals in the exhibition playing soccer,” she told us.

An Eye-Witness Account of a Traffic Accident

u18102184422988145662fm0gp0.jpg     It was at about 9:00 on Sunday morning, when I went out of the campus to go to a supermarket for a shopping. I was walking leisurely on the sidewalk of Xueyuang Road when I heard a loud crash just at the cross about 10 meters away. Two cars crashed together.It was a serious traffic accident.

      Lots of people rushed to the spot to see what had happened, me included. I found two cars were badly damaged with a door knocked off. One driver was blooding on his forehead and another was shut in the taxi. Some people were trying to help the driver get out of the damaged car; others were calling 110 and 120 for help.At that time a lot of cars were jammed on the road.

How telephone effect on our life in communication in the hundred years

It has saved lives by getting rapid word of illness, injury, or fire from remote places. By joining with the elevator to make possible the multi-story residence or office building, it has made possible — for better or worse — the modern city. By bringing about a great leap in the speed and ease with which information moves from place to place, it has greatly accelerated the rate of scientific and technological changes and growth in industry.
