Posted by admin on April 10th, 2008Before you install: AlternaTIFF will configure itself to be Internet Explorer’s default TIFF file viewer, but it cannot prevent other applications from changing that setting in the future. If QuickTime, or some other ActiveX TIFF viewer, is installed on your computer, your best bet is to turn off TIFF support in that application before installing AlternaTIFF. Here are instructions about QuickTime. Most other imaging applications do not include an ActiveX control for Internet Explorer, and therefore do not need to be reconfigured.

Peace race in Kenya’s Rift Valley
Posted by admin on March 19th, 2008In Kenya’s Rift Valley, the Turkana and Pokot ethnic groups have long battled over resources, such as cattle and land. But they recently put aside their differences for a day to take part in a race organized by one of Kenya’s top athletes as a way of bringing the groups together and easing tensions.
Turkana and Pokot warriors singing, dancing and chatting side-by-side is a rare sight in Kenya’s central Rift Valley.
But that is what happened on International Peace Day, as they along with the Marakwet and some members of Uganda’s Karamajong ethnic group, focused on a common goal: to win the 10-kilometer race.
For runner Peter Loupe, this was a special day. He says this race, along with other sports projects recently introduced into the area, has improved the lives of community members.
Loupe says Pokot, Turkana and Marakwet families are living more peacefully together because of coming together at sports events such as the race. Through these initiatives, he says, people have also discovered talents they did not know they had, which has helped them economically.
More than 400 Turkana, Pokot, Marakwet and Karamajong men and women gathered in the early hours at the start line, some stretching or doing jumping jacks to warm up their muscles.

Sometimes, the example the parent wants him to follow is ignored while he takes over contrary patterns from some other example. Therefore we must turn to a more subtle theory than “Monkey see, monkey do.” Look at it from the child’s point of view. Here he is in a new situation, lacking a ready response. He is seeking a response which will gain certain ends. If he lacks a ready response for the situation, and cannot reason out what to do, he observes a model who seems able to get the right result. The child looks for an authority or expert who can show what to do.

Thank you for always being there for me.” Memories…memories…six days a week, Grandpa in that old blue shirt caring for those cattle…on hot summer days plowing the soil, planting the corn and beans and harvesting them in the fall…always working from dawn to dusk. Survival demanded work, work, work.
Getting to Know the World Outside the Campus

This is because in this “Information Age” the society is developing so fast that we should keep pace with the progress of the outside world. Therefore, without knowledge of the outside world, it will be difficult for us to ensure an ideal job after graduation; it will be more difficult for us to succeed in the fierce competition.
How to know the outside world? First of all, we should be well-informed about what is happening around us with the help of mass media:radios, televisions, newspapers, the Internet, and so on. Moreover,we should do some practical social services so as to cultivate our social skills, widen our horizon and enrich our social experience.
As for me, I plan to know the outside world in two ways. I am going to do a part-time job in this summer vocation. In addition, I hold the idea that getting knowledge from books is a better method to know the outside world.

Some people say that we should read selectively. They believe that it is not how much one reads but what he reads that really counts. Since we have no enough time to read all kinds of books, we should read selectively to achieve a high efficiency, reading only those that are useful to our majors and future works. Only by this way can we make full use of our time, and gain more practical knowledge.
